MacDaddy Tournament Registrations go Live

PC gaming team honors fallen teammate with a tournament to benefit the young daughter he left behind.

The MacDaddy Invitational Tournament is being held by Shawn “MacDaddy” Meyer’s teammates and friends to honor him and to raise money for a trust fund to benefit his 8-year-old daughter, Nicole. This Online RavenShield 5v5 Team Survival event starts Saturday, September 18th with an entry fee of $30 per team. “Every dime raised goes directly into a trust fund,” says Scott “BigJake” Moore, friend and teammate of Meyer’s who is spearheading this tournament. Sponsors will be donating prizes.

Moore explained, “Mac was very close to his daughter. He would go on and on about how much she meant to him. Her future and her life were his primary concern and we made that our main concern as well.”

According to Moore, Meyer was playing a public PC game online with a few teammates when he complained of a terrible headache and left to go to the doctor. Later the team found out he was in critical condition at the hospital. Meyer was kept on life support to allow friends and family the chance to say goodbye. Meyer died of a brain aneurysm on July 26th at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California. Services were held at Christ Cathedral in Bakersfield on July 30th.

Meyer’s team, Appetite for Destruction, (A4D) has already raised over $2,600 and would like to reach a goal of $6,000 for the trust fund, which will be governed by a board of seven people including two of Nicole’s family members and five team members from A4D, says Moore.

That's sad and a tragedy, but hopefully people show up and donate and God be with that family. He is in a good place and will watch over his family im sure of it.....

a Brain aneurysm usually occurs when a blood clot from anywhere else in the body.....makes it to the brain and clogs one of the veins. Unfortunately the veins in the brain cannot expands as much as the ones in the rest of the body and the end result is well....ya know, basically resulting in a bleed out. If found in time and can be removed surgically but, if found too late, nothing can be done. It to aside form the heart attack is another silent killer and that is why if you have unusual headaches for any reason you should get them checked out. Could be your life at stake.

I would also like to say that what his mates are doing truly is their very own act of knidness and dedication they have to their comrades.....im sure He would be happy knowing that the people he played with no matter how far away or how different they are from each other still show that it doesnt matter where he is now but that he is still part of that clan. I dont think they will have any problem reaching that $6,000 goal nro do i think it will stop their either. I commend his Mates on what they are trying to do for him and i would like to send my deepest sympathies to them and his family. His Daughter is just as lucky knowing that her daddy had such great friends to look out for him as they did and that he wont be forgotten. People always say remember him for something.....in a sense hes not gone. We may not be able to see him but, hes here and hes reading the posts and he knows that in our hearts we only mean the best, and he would definately appreciate it. Funny thing is...i never knew the guy but when a member of the TWL league falls to an unforseen enemy, it hurts us all.

This is great...I'd love to be in with the rest of my clan, unfortunatly for some reason my account at A4D has been suspended.

As a leader and a founding member of 'X3' Clan, I would like to express my sympathies to "MacDaddy"'s daughter on behalf of all of 'X3'. Although not a RavenShield clan, we feel this loss just as much as anyone else and mourn when someone is taken from us. Our hopes and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Meyers, in hopes that things will be well in the future. 'X3' also salutes A4D for their kindness and benevolent acts for Mr. Meyers' daughter.

Wow, thats what I call a real team. Having a foundation like that. I'm 17 and have a daugter of my own. I really would'nt like to leave her and my Fiance; especially with how hard we are trying to become an independant family.I heard a brain aneurysm is a stroke like syndrome. Which means obesity and an unhealty lifestyle can cause this. Not to scare anyone but to all those that take games to serious and don't give much time to themselves; things like this can happen to anyone and can be prevented with proper exercise and nutrition.

I for one don't play the game you all are doing this for, but i will make a donation.

I would like to add also that i know what Brain Anerisms are. My mother had one back in 1988. To this day she still has problems. It's not easy to deal with at times. But it's harder when you loose someone. Anerisms are serious, and can happen at any time without warning. If it wasn't for me and the lady my mom babysat for she would of been lost.

Your acount was most likely affected by a glitch we had at our site. We hit some kind of invisible members cap on the site. At least this is what my resident web diva tells me. That's awful. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and clan members. I have a 3 year old daughter and can't imagine the pain his family is going through. Sorry for your loss.

Although we do not play RvS, we applaud the outstanding support provided by his clan and deeply respect their actions. I intend to post this information on our website and I'd expect to be able to garner some funds to send to the trust fund.

As far as the definition of a stroke goes there are 2 kinds, Ischemic Stroke and Aneurysm. Z-Tidus was partially correct, but mixed the two types slightly.

Ischemic stroke is caused by an embolism breaking loose and traveling to the brain where it becomes lodged in the smaller, less flexible blood vessels of the brain. The brain cells after the blockage suffer from hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and die. If the blockage is of large artery, more of the brain is affected, resulting in massive brain damage and death.

Aneurysm is the weakening of the blood vessel wall (usually an artery), that causes a bulge in the blood vessel itself. This bulge can also cause pressure in the brain, usually indicated by pain. When the bulge weakens to the point of rupture, then blood leaks into the cranial vault. This causes increased intercranial pressure, concomitant cell hypoxia, and eventually brain death if not corrected rapidly.

That's stroke, the short definition. I posted this info in response to Housewear's question. To find out the risk factors of stroke, do a search. One of the greatest stroke risk factors for gamers is sitting immobile in front of our computers for hours at a time. It has been proven that people who sit for long periods of time (i.e. long car trips or sitting in front of the computer for 8 hrs straignt without getting up) are at a higher risk for pulmonary embolism and stroke. We all should be taking breaks and walking around a bit every hour or so.

wow, Once can only hope that their teammates would do the same for them. I think it is amazing what his teammates are doing for him and would love to donate. I am only 14 years old and reading about this has mad eme realize how preciose life really is. I will tell all of my clanmates about this in hopes that they will feel the same way I do and will make a donation. All my best go to Mac's family.

I challenge everyone who reads this thread to donate a buck or two......with the some 200,000 people that visit and or play through TWL we could really help. And years from now when she uses this money for college or whatever it will kinda give this girl alittle piece of her dad.

(CAN) Clan sends our thoughts out to the family and friends. A clan has become one of those groups that is both family (sometimes literally) and friends. The irony is that almost all of us play "violent" games.

I relate the clan experience to real combat. Talk to some of the old WW2 or Vietnam veterans. Some of their closest friends were squad or battalian members. The combat may not be real, but the friendships are.

[CL] is not a RVS clan but we send our deepest condolences to everyone involved. It hurts to lose a close friend, but I am glad you guys and the community as a whole are bonding together to help that little girl thru this. It’s nice to see that the teams and communities we have all help to build here can set aside their differences to help change someone’s life. a brain aneursym is a blood vessel anomaly that is there for a long time. it can break out any time. the break out is favorised by high blood pressure.

you can stuff those safe easily nowadays without even opening the skull but then you need to know it's there in the first place ...

what tidus describes is a brain ischemic stroke.

yeh that is awful, i had a friend online who i would play guitar with over the internet, he even taught me some stuff, when i found out later that he had drowned while rafting down a river,.. its such a shock and weird feeling even thought i didnt know him in person.

Its nice to see the gaming community doing what they can to help the family. RIP MacDaddy
