I have had Halo for awhile but just haven't installed it. So I install the game and everything seems to be ok..it updates, I go through and change the key config, and my profile...so I go into the multiplayer online, find a server and join.... when it loads up I am in the map for prolly 2 seconds and it freezes.....So...after doing that about half-a-dozen times, I uninstall and reinstall try again...the same thing..and now it says that I should start game in Safe-mode... so I say ok...and join a map... I don't Freeze up...w00t...but now I can't fire any weapons..uuuurrggg! .. what do I need to do to make this freekin game work???

(System: Gateway 1.8g processor, 768 DDRram, Gforce4 128M TI4600 AGP card, DSL 2.5M down/ 348K up)

yes...

it sounds like a memory issue tho...

do you get "gathering exception data"?
No generally it just freezes up....I have turned down most of the settings, video, audio etc... just trying to get some playing time in. I tried it again last night about 3 times (each time playing any where for 2 sec to 2 minutes) and would have to completely reboot my computer, the ctrl/alt/delete would not come up to stop the program. Pretty frustrating!

Oh...and I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 3 times now...never makes any difference. I have went to the sites recommended here to find some info. What I may try is to loosen my ram timings to see if that works.

I had the exact same problem when I had my old computer, so I'm guessing you're using another OS than XP?

Change your firewall settings. And DO NOT download window's service pack 2.

Ouuuch...already d/l service pack 2 before I installed the Halo game ... I guess I can do a system restore to just prior to the Svc Pack 2 and reinstall Halo....

What do the firewall settings need to be...or what am I looking for to adjust to allow this game to run properly?

Does everyone have this much problem running this game???

I want to thank all of you who have contributed your time to helping me!

The firewall settings of certain programs will disable some parts of the game. Such as multiplayer, it may ask you to run in safe mode sometimes due to a security risk. Also, the service pack will disable any connection to a different computer, meaning you may have trouble joining servers.
there is a fix for sp2... check the gearbox forums...
Ok...I will look at that tonight...to see what I can figure out from the information that yall have provided...thanks again and I will let cha know what I find out.

man i no ur EXACT prob it happened 2 me when i tried to install the manuall update. try reinstaling the game but repair it this time as well. dont keep any pld halo files just reinstall the hole thng. if ur luky when u install it and get the update u go 2 settings and then see wat ur build number is (its in the 'about' place) the last lot of numbers should be around .o612 or somin like that . if it is lower than that u must go to http://www.bungie.com and see a storie about manuall update 4 version 1.50 . it gives u da update and how 2 run it. if thats doesent work than u are REALY UNLUKKY .
if any1 has somin to add to this or disagrees than say so

Dude, whatever you do, keep the system restore option as a LAST resort. I tried to do just that after I got SP2 and decided I didn't like it. My comp was a total mess after sys restore and I had to format.
i was wrong about the service pack issue go here and read what it says to do.... http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=454908
