Twl punkbuster cfg

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2004-07-02 · 30 posts
I added the new required punkbuster cfg to my server and a bunch of pubs and my members get kicked constantly until I deleted it from the server

Think it has to do with this cvar: pb_sv_cvar r_nv_fog_dist in 0

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

Did you make sure your Nvidia Distance Fog is set to "No" in your actual game under Options>System>Graphics?
ya u still get kicked
This config bites the bag....hard! Just another thing I have to setup before running a match that I would NEVER run normally *cough*pam*cough* between this stupid config, the damn forced PAM mod, allowed weapons reduced for the cry babies, now the stupid map change, I don't know what's worse.

its not that hard to setup client side and helps out alot in my opinion! every cvar is a in game command. Dirtymic all u have too do is /r_nv_fog_dist 0 if that is the warning u are getting. that dont sound right though(the cammand) basically what ever it is sayin is not at the right value u must change accordingly. unless it says warning aim "1" / jk
It's a very simple thing to do. Go to options, graphics and set Nvdia Long. Fog to No.

This config is not just a TWL pb config but a multi-league config used for the community's advantage along with PAM.

The PB config is laughed at by the admins in cheatpolice and PB.com. The one we run is better (though for matches we use TWL's). Lets it face, turning off NV fog isn’t going to do a thing.
I can’t believe there isn’t a pbsvuser.cfg to go with it. Then again I don’t see in the rules we can’t use ours. If you want to take things serious about cheating at least make the standard one mandatory. There is no point in not at least using the one that PB.com recommends.
If you only play on the other team’s server, there is no way you can check to see if the guid’s are right. I think if it is only played on there server, that team should zip up the screen shots and screen shot of the player’s guid’s. and send them to other team with a time limit of say 30 mins after the match is over.

Any player at anytime in any pb enabled server can type /pb_plist and see everyones pb GUIDs.

If I remember correctly, the r_nv_fog_dist CVAR is turned off because it allows the NVidia driver to generate the fog and there are some hacked versions of the driver that allow you to not generate the fog, letting you see all the way across the map. With it turned off, the game engine generates the fog. When PB first complained about it in our server and I turned it off, it also told me I had to restart CoD for it to take effect. Also, turning it off won't be permanent unless you either do it in the GUI config or use "/seta r_nv_fog_dist 0" to save it to the config_mp.cfg file.

Perfectly correct. There is workaround that allows people to do this using a combination of cvars. Locking the Nvidia fog cvar prevents users from using the workaround to simulate a no fog hack.

Once we get the MD5 sums for PAM we will be giving you a pbsvuser.cfg to use in conjuntion with the pbsv.cfg.

Just because EB or some other site recommends a certain config doesnt necessarily mean its the "right" config to use. We research our configs to make sure they include all the cvars that we know can be exploited. At a bare minimum they allow users to configure certain options such as http logging for their own purposes.

On the issue of PB screenshots its quite easy to check and see if they have been manipulated. Go to punksbusted.com and download the SS checker. Its a very handy tool. Go do some more research.

The no fog kicked allot of our peeps for a few days until they figured it out. I'm cool with it but I hear the No fog drivers still work.

What about cvar ckecking for specific hacks?

these cant be in violation! im not planning on making them strict such as a m_pitch value or anything but just the obvious ones. like those above!

I dont see why these simple additions were not added. Seems like a no brainer.
especially for the "toggle" cheaters!

I am one of them, staff at [CP], and I am not laughing. I have spoke with a few others and they are not laughing either. Just because the cfg is not as in-depth as some others doesn't make it a joke.

What the hell does Nvidia distance fog do anyways? I don't notice a difference off or on.

Are these ones we can add to our PB config? even if they are not required by TWL they look like they may be good to have.

Ummmm.... you mean the in-game options right? Because I don't have that option in my graphics menu - but then again I use an ATI card - so I am going to the right place but its just not there because I am not using NVIDA correct?
if turing off NV fog was the intent to( to limit the walkaround) , then you should make sure that a cvar is set so you cant use r_fastsky 1 , That makes more since.
just type this in console mic:

/r_nv_fog_dist 0
My guys with NVIDIA cards are telling me that it causes lag and messes up their graphics when they turn that option off....

This a concern because it is required for the league and may may a negative impact on thier performance.

I was wondering if this is a known problem and if it can be fixed
i have a nvidia ti4600 and no lag and graphics are ok and i have play a long time with the fog off.
I've only noticed a 5-15FPS drop.

Well ever since we have put this new pbsv.cfg file on our server, it constantly kicks all the guests. I mean all of our members already know what to do, but what good does it do if all of our guests get kicked? Everytime i play on our server its only members of my clan, every other person who joins gets kicked, and doenst bother trying to come back. Thats retarded. I noticed one thing though. I Was testing someting out where i took out the command out of the pbsv.cfg and all guests could connect without getting kicked. Now, i tested to see that once i turned PAM on, if the no fog command would be turned on again, and it was.I checked my console and it did check for that cvar. Our server runs a rotation with TDM maps, so everytime its on TDM again , the no fog command turns off, whenever pam is turned on, it turns on again.
Well, the idea behide Pam was to make life easer for server admins (which it would for me if it didnt have a pub mode at all). However this config is no good for pub play, said that before. So, we are back again to having install and remove the Pb config if you have only one server. LOL
FPS drop was reported by our Nvidia users as well
i get about 10-25 less fps now thanks TWL!!! and Pam is being used in HQ even with all the bugs... COME ON WTF!!!!!!
/r_nv_fog_dist 0 solves all your problems

any updates on this?
