wtfwtfwtfwtfwtf
I remember when I first started playing that I hated trying to ski pushing the jump button constantly. Since I couldn't ski I could barely hit anyone since they were flying by me.

I also miss taking an hour in inventory stations
I remember just playing the training missions.. landing on those small(really large) platforms for the first time was really hard.
anyone else remember that being hard the first time? i can probably do it w/o looking now =]
I also remember it being hard to jetpack around at first. I remember the old 56k + AOL days.. not having any servers ping "green". All the 996 and timing out. My favorite maps were scarebrae and broadside. I remember noticing the better people flew over and shot discs down at you so I tried to emulate that. I started loving the e pack when people were still using ammo packs and sensor jammers =p. That little bit of satisfaction I got from a kill, a nice shot, a cap, or a good score got me hooked. Aside from all the flaming, people getting cocky over a game, calling each other names such as fag or newbie... getting angry for no reason, insulting one another ..correcting and quoting grammar as if to sound more intelligent... O SNIPERS!! jk about the O snipers part I couldn't care less, a pub is a pub... it's the damn tower spammers on SB that get on my nerves =p. Anyway tribes is still tribes as with any other online FPS. I'll always love the game i'm good at. Organized team CTF ladders are unmatched. Also there has never been another FPS that requires the teamwork and practice, as well as the endless posibilities in skill. I have been able to get better little by little since 1998.. although most of the skill came within the 1st year, there are no bounderies, there is no limit. I know this game isn't what it used to be but I hope it lasts as long as possible.

Amen.

I remember being so damned stupid that I thought you had to be at a Command Station to set waypoints. I would ask my brother (who's since moved on to [several] different games) to set my waypoint cause he spawned closer to the Command Station than I did.

I remember being considered l33t because I could pilot an HPC better than most.

I remember when D&D was considered a totally kick ass map type.

I remember bitching about someone cheating because I was head sniped in mid-air 3 times in a row and then being asked, "You've never heard of Renegades, have you?" (Laser turrets are all the rage, I hear. )

I remember booting -W-TeRRoR into obs mode on Cain's Lair (I was an admin) because he spammed the BE tower from the hilltop on SB. (He and I ended up becoming very good friends, btw...)

Hell, I remember Cain's Lair.

I remember asking "wtf is 'sad'?"

Hell, I remember wondering wtf 'wtf' meant.

I remember being one of the first in T1 to get broadband, and still getting pwned by the HPBs. (I ping 15-25 on Heaven and it still happens to me. )

I remember the MERC squads.

I remember when TOP wasn't something people laughed at.

I remember not being able to get back onto the flag stand on RC after i feel off. Jumping into a scout on certin maps just to get to the other teams base then dieing right away.

Desert-Storm
I was in those MERC squads ^^.

God, got some good and bad memories of this game.
hahaha....falling off towers...yah that was a biotch....and disc jumping...discovering scripts (i would dl everything to see what it did)...ma nades...huge maps (thinking.....what am i supposed to do here)...inventory searches...runnig out of bounds with the flag....scout capping....being owned for hours and pounding the keyboard when you finally had that apponant at a sliver of red and being killed (o wait....I still do that)
"cryin won't help ya.....prayin won't do you no good"
thinking I was l33t and entering a mod for the first time....learning about laser turrets
"cryin won't help ya.....prayin won't do you no good"
*asking what the hell an MA was...*
*thought that a blaster was a kickass weapon*
I've had 8 snipers hit me all at once. In base ctf.

that, was, umm. sad. ^^

man... the blaster is a kickass weapon..!
most successful thread evarrrrr
First time playing Scarabrae, wondering where the flag was hidden, actually using APC's to transport HO's to enemy base on RD, skiing: wtf is that? , everyone playing with team damage turned off, CTF was only ONE mission type: we played ALL the missions back then, 250 was a GREAT ping , Bob's nick was Bob! , We were all "NEWBIES" , everyone helped each other learn, no one flamed, IRC was Dynamix in game, period...... man, what a time it's been ! and it's still the most fun you can have on a PC !!!!

If you can't fly with the eagles, go peck shit with the chickens!
getting laughed at on the Wayside for going LO with a reppack after spending 20 minutes in the inventory on RD...

turret farming for S=A then moving on to HoF for a top 20 (and top 10 for a few days) team with a 400 ping
when i first started i loved those apc's...i would get in heavy with an ammo and shout at my team for rides. hahahha skiing...ummm no. I WAS A NEWB

and i still am
one word, scoutcap
I too remember taking like 15 minutes on an inventory station. I used to O snipe on my AOL connection, how sad. When i first tried to snipe, i thought the targeting lazer was the sniper rifle and i couldnt figure out why I wasn't killing anybody. Broadside was my favorite map(esp on renegades) because i could take a sniper rifle or lazer rifle and O snipe.
I remember getting in medium, setting up ammo stations, turrets, an inv and then i would get in light and 'snipe' people with my disc launcher from my 'sniper' base. I remember when i played broadside I would be in heavy, and i would miss those two platforms that get you to the top of the base, and i woould get pissed and just shoot mortars straight up

wtf, old schooler night on TWL T1 forum!
Prolly my biggest memory was going from shifter to duel and arena.

I remember when I first started playing duel, I would always challenge the best players in the server. It was like training with the best... except I wasn't very good. Learned a lot though. I remember when LordSoth once told me that I should join the Duel ladder and that I could make the top 50 easily. That was quite an honor.

I also remember Arena and how hard it was. I quit shifter so I could play more Arena. Heh I sucked for a long time.

Man, the memories of Tribes are just too much... I've been playing for almost 4 years and I still love it.

LordSoth.... that does bring back memories. He was one of the early WRH, and played with us for years. He's still around, playing Arena.

Soth, if you read this, stop by and visit us in #WRH sometime, you slacker

I remember on RC like 3+ years ago this guy was skiing with the flag and going pretty fast (to me at the time anyway) I didn't know about skiing then so I typed in global "cheater" because I thought it was impossible. Boy do I feel dumb now.
I remember the platforms on the training mission, that was damn hard back then. I remember when skiing got started and diskjumping before getting to the flag was unheard of. Ahh, and the Run & Gun brownies.

There weren't any guys on it RuM... :-|
Most frusterating thing ever was broadside/blastside pubs when I would stare at the base for a few seconds then flyflyfly up to the front and miss it by inches, then fall alllll the way down the hill.

Also loved setting up flag D on Scarabrae in heavy for 5 minutes and then watching the camera in the tunnel to catch those sneaky bastards on the way in.

Go learn a real route, newbie!

that was my position for the first month i played tribes..the camera..i miss that thing

I remember grabbing the flag on Scara and just running as fast as possible back to my base and then hopping from platform to platform to platform to get back into the base.

i miss being able to have to decide what base server i want to play on

i miss the days when everyone just wore their tags

i miss being able to say "I need an APC pickup" and seriously mean it

i miss being able to play "HPC/LPC killer" and have that be a valid position, with its own load out. i also miss killing the pilot and then flying the load out of heavies way oob..and watch them walk towards are base...(no one ctrl'k'd back in those days..risk a low score? never)hahaha

*sigh*
Speaking of using the various planes, I remember a "l33t" strat would be to snipe people out of the scouts, then drive their scout planes OOB so they coudn't buy anymore...

Oh the fun

Faken

LoL thank u neg for bringing back all of these memories i have been playing this game for 4-5 years no and just like dae i got told by someone to join the duel ladder and now look where i am 22 LOL but i just joined now I am sooo stupid to tell u the truth i cant even remeber how crappy i was when i was new but i know the first tribe i ever joined was called [WoW] Warriors Of Wisdom CTF Clan and now i am 100% duel and arena well maybe 80%arena 20%Duel but u get the point..then we have people saying tribes one has lost it's fun factor w00t thank goodness those people have left the tribes one game ! I still experiance what everyone has posted Been playing since Day 2 and I still suck ass... what can I say?
I thank you Daerithius and Viet vet, you both bring back alot of old memories. I am always up for a good duel, some duelers out there i am not worhty to touch there feet because they mastered the game so well, but i love dueling them all the same. Wrh was my building block when Roca started it years ago, he started it before t-1 came out, it was Mech warrior 1. He came to tribes and recruited me, and i fell in love with it. Alot of history yes, it was great, but now we look to the future, what is your future in the game here)
